Joanna is the passionate educator and founder of A Fuller Education. Since her first year in the classroom, she’s been on a journey of re-imagining education and discovering how children learn best. She began as a middle school math teacher in inner-city Los Angeles and later in a school for an orphanage in El Salvador. Since 2013, she’s been coaching K-12 teachers and administrators to help them find ways to authentically attend to their students’ thinking and how to transform their classrooms into joyful learning communities.
Joanna holds a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Biola University and a Masters of Education in Organizational Leadership from Teachers College at Columbia University. She currently lives in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania with her husband and their three sons (4 years old, 2 years old, and newborn).
Our Learning Approach & Core Values
Identity comes from Christ, not from the world and not from being “good”.
We study God's Word so that we can get to know God and know that He can be trusted.
Christ-Centered
Learning happens when students are ready, see purpose, make connections to their world, experience it and reflect on it.
Students should be positioned to take ownership of their learning so that they are doing the heavy cognitive lifting (not the teacher).
True learning is experiential, relational, emotional, spiritual, connected, and real-world.
Customized Learning
Our 21st century world needs students who can problem-solve and think critically. We are preparing them for jobs that don’t yet exist.
We focus on process over outcomes & reasoning over rote-memorization.
Critical Thinking
Relationships matter. Our community matters. We value each other and engage in each other's thinking and perspective.
Parents are our partners. They are the child's first and primary teacher. Parents offer expertise and they can benefit from being in the classroom to learn alongside our teachers.
